Original title: US announced sanctions against Iran's largest petrochemical company
On Friday, the US Treasury Department announced sanctions against Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries and its 39 subsidiaries on the grounds that it provided financial support to construction companies affiliated to the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard.
Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries is Iran's largest and most profitable petrochemical company, accounting for 40% of Iran's annual petrochemical production and 50% of its exports.
US Treasury Secretary Mnuchin said, "This move is to warn any organization that provides economic support to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps."
US Secretary of State Pompeo said that the policy is a new US measure against Iran's "extreme pressure" and will cut off the economic resources needed by the Iranian government to "destroy the stability of the Middle East."
In April, the US government queued the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guardian as a terrorist organization.
US financial institutions have frozen the assets of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the United States.
