The European Union is closely monitoring developments in
Kashmir.
On Thursday, August 8, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs
and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said during a telephone conversation
with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
The content of the conversation was distributed by the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.
Federica Mogherini emphasized that "the escalation of
tension could adversely affect both the peace process in Afghanistan and the
security situation in the region."According to her, the EU continues to
closely monitor the development of the situation in Kashmir.
"The (recent) actions of India (the abolition of the state
of Jammu and Kashmir. - Ed.) May aggravate the situation of protecting human
rights along the control line and seriously affect peace and stability in South
Asia," Kureshi said in turn, urging the interlocutor to make this, the issue for discussion by representatives of EU member states.
Foreign Minister of Pakistan at the same time pointed to "the
fact that the deployment of 180 thousand. The Indian military, as well as the suspension

curfew along the Line of Control".
Recall, the Government of India
announced on Monday, August 5, the decision to repeal Article 370 of the
Constitution, which gives the state of Jammu and Kashmir special status.
According
to the Minister of the Interior of India, Amit Shah, in parliament, Jammu and
Kashmir is losing state status and becoming union territory (having fewer
rights than the state), the historical region of Ladakh, which also becomes a union territory, is being separated from it.
Other changes in the status
and management of Jammu and Kashmir are also expected. At the same time,
the state will retain its legislative body.
According to the constitution of India, Jammu and Kashmir have
special autonomy, in this state, all the laws adopted by the central government
(with the exception of the defense, external relations, and some others) had to
be approved by the local assembly. Residents of other regions of India did
not have the right to buy land in Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir have their own
flag, a number of other advantages.
History reference. First Indo-Pakistani War
1947-1949 started because of a dispute over the ownership of Jammu and
Kashmir.
As a result of the war of 1947-1949, India gained control over
about 2/3 of the region, the rest went to Pakistan. The Kashmir conflict
has led to tensions between the two countries, which generally remain
unchanged.
Recall that earlier the Pakistan Air Force shot down two
Indian Air Force fighters, one of which fell on Pakistani territory.
In addition, at least one Indian Army soldier and two Pakistani
military personnel was killed in a shootout in Kashmir on the control the line between the two countries.
