The tracks on the busy airport serving the capital of the United States will be closed on Thursday during the event Independence Day President Donald Trump, federal officials said.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced on Tuesday that operations at Washington's Ronald Reagan National Airport would be suspended between 6:15 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. Eastern Time to allow a ceremonial overflight of a military aircraft.
The tracks will also be closed from 9 pm to 9:45 pm Eastern time for the annual fireworks display, which is not connected to Trump's "Greeting to the United States."
Such closure is unprecedented for the events of July 4, an official said. The fireworks launch point has been moved from the National Mall to a nearby park to accommodate the Trump exhibit at the Lincoln Memorial.
The last closing of such track was in 2015 for a commemorative flight of the aircraft of the Second World War.
The airport's website still does not show arrivals and departures for Thursday. It showed 73 arrivals and 38 scheduled departures for the same periods on Tuesday night.
Micah Lillard, a spokeswoman for the Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority, said officials "anticipate that some flights on Reagan National will be affected during the afternoon and evening."
This year's Independence Day festivities will include two fireworks displays and a Blue Angels Flyover and the plane that serves as Air Force One.
"We're going to have planes flying overhead, the best fighter planes in the world and other planes too," Trump said on Monday.
The FAA said emergency and medical flights "would be authorized as needed."
