US may raise higher raise duties on goods from China after September 1

US President Donald Trump said he could raise customs duties on imports from China even higher after September 1, if Beijing does not make efforts to conclude a trade deal with Washington.
They have a lot to do before September 1. To be honest, if they don’t, I can always increase the fees significantly. In other words, I could increase them, if I wanted, I could increase them to very large values.” - the president noted.

Trump said earlier that Washington will introduce new duties of 10% on Chinese goods worth $ 300 billion from September 1.
Recall that China and the United States for several months held negotiations on the settlement of trade disputes.

The 11th round of consultations took place in the American capital in the first half of May, but after that, the dialogue came to a standstill.

On May 10, Washington imposed additional duties on Chinese products in the amount of $ 200 billion, raising the rate from 10% to 25%.

In early June, the Chinese government retaliated against more than 5,000 US commodity items in the amount of $ 60 billion.

The decision to resume consultations was reached during the meeting between Trump and Xi Jinping at the G20 Summit in Osaka on June 28–29.
The American leader promised not to introduce new duties on goods from China, as well as to ease restrictions on the activities of Huawei.
In response, Beijing expressed its willingness to increase purchases of agricultural products from the United States.
Earlier this week, the 12th round of negotiations took place in Shanghai

After him, the White House issued a statement in which he called past meetings constructive, but later the US president announced that the United States would introduce 10% duties on goods from China worth $ 300 billion from September 1.

The next round of negotiations are expected to take place in Washington in early September.
