Brazilian star Marta put her name back in the record books after noticing from the penalty spot against Italy to become the most prolific scorer in the history of the World Cup finals.
With his 17th goal in the Women's World Cup, which meant the victory of his team with a score of 1-0, he beat the German Miroslav Klose as the person with the most goals either in the men's or women's tournament.
It was a record night in both Group C matches, as Havana Solaunn scored Jamaica's first goal in a Women's World Cup, which however was not enough to prevent their team's defeat to Australia by a score of 4-1.
With the results on Tuesday, Italy, Brazil and Australia qualify for the qualifiers, while Jamaica, the first Caribbean country to play in the Women's World Cup, fails to advance after three defeats in three games.
Marta, six-time FIFA player of the year and considered the best female soccer player in history, celebrated her feat by kissing her boot.
The 33-year-old became last week the first player to score in five Women's World Cups.
With 17 goals in 19 games, Marta now has two more goals in the World Cup than her compatriot Ronaldo and five more than the Brazilian icon Pelé, a three-time World Cup winner.
However, despite all her individual achievements, the Brazilian captain has never won the World Cup; his best result was a runner-up medal in 2007.
